New and Limited Japanese Fountain Pens and Inks, Autumn 2026
Every autumn Japanese pen makers and pen shops release limited pens and inks, and most of them are sold first, or only, in Japan. This is what I found announced or released between August and October 2026, checked on the makers’ and shops’ own pages as of 19 October 2026.
Short answer: The pens to watch are Sailor’s Enryu (450 pens, on sale 24 October) and Pilot’s limited Elite 95S “Ai” colour (October). For inks, ancora’s Full Moon ink is sold only in its Ginza store, three days at a time, and Nagasawa’s new Kobe INK物語 colour came out on 19 October. None of these pages mentions a lottery. Several Sailor releases from the summer may already be sold out.
Pens
| Pen | Price (incl. tax) | Release | How limited |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sailor Chōtō-togi Ebonite Enryu (MF, M, B) | ¥275,000 | 24 Oct 2026 | 450 worldwide: 225 for Japan, 225 overseas |
| Pilot Elite 95S “Ai” (indigo; EF, F, M) | ¥33,000 | October 2026 | Limited quantity, number not stated |
| Sailor EBONITE ETERNAL FLOW (F, M) | ¥110,000 | 12 Sep 2026 | Limited sale, number not stated |
| Sailor 115th anniversary HIROSHIMA Momiji (MF) | ¥220,000 | 6 Aug 2026 | 1,150 pens |
| Sailor 115th anniversary HIROSHIMA Yosegi-zaiku (MF) | ¥330,000 | 6 Aug 2026 | 115 pens |
| Nagasawa Bitter Chocolate / Milk Chocolate | ¥17,600 | 25 Sep / 16 Oct 2026 | Not stated; every nib showed sold out when I checked |
Enryu has a large 21-karat long-blade (chōtō-togi) nib and a speckled layered-ebonite body, each with a serial number. Sailor says it goes on sale at its retailers across Japan.
Elite 95S. Pilot added three regular colours (Hozuki, Fuji, Sakura) and one limited one, Ai, sold through stationery shops and department stores in Japan. The regular colours are easier; the Ai is the one that will not stay on shelves.
The two 115th anniversary pens list only Sailor’s own online shop as the place to buy. Their pages, and the EBONITE ETERNAL FLOW page, note that sales may already have ended. Sailor’s online shop lists delivery options inside Japan only.
Nagasawa’s chocolate pens are the shop’s own pens, made with the Kobe INK物語 chocolate-museum colours. They opened for pre-order online at 20:00 on a set evening, and when I checked every nib size of both showed sold out.
Inks
| Ink | Price (incl. tax) | Release | How it is sold |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sailor Sailor’s Voyage set (20 ml bottles) | ¥7,480 | 22 Aug 2026 | Limited; Sailor’s online shop |
| ancora Full Moon bottled ink | ¥1,870 | Already on sale | Ginza store only, three days from each full moon, one per person |
| Nagasawa Kobe INK物語 “toi toi toi! omajinai blue” (50 ml) | ¥2,750 | 19 Oct 2026 | Nagasawa’s online shop (pre-orders from 26 Sep) |
Sailor’s Voyage marks 20 years of Sailor’s ink-blending events: original colours mixed by four of its ink blenders for this set. Sailor calls it a limited release and notes it may be sold out.
ancora is the Ginza store run by Plus and Sailor. On 25 September it added a Full Moon Lecur fountain pen (¥9,900) and converter (¥1,650). The release day was the only day the Full Moon items were also sold online. Now they are sold only at the Ginza store, for three days starting on each full moon, one of each per person. The store says they are not limited in quantity, but they are limited in where and when. By the national observatory’s calendar, the next full moons are 26 October, 24 November and 24 December 2026. Check ancora’s notice for the exact sale days.
Platinum: not a release, but the bigger news
On 1 October 2026 Platinum announced the end of production of the standard #3776 Century series (the PNB-15000 and PNB-18000CR models in their current colours). They will be sold until stock runs out, and Platinum says an improved successor will be announced later. If you want one of the current colours or nib sizes, Japanese shop stock is where it will be found. For Platinum’s limited and shop-collaboration editions, see my earlier post, Where to Buy Platinum #3776 Century Limited Editions in Japan.
Lottery or limited: what it means for you
None of the official pages above mentions a lottery. They are limited in three different ways, and each needs a different approach:
- A fixed number of pens (Enryu, the 115th anniversary pens). Japan’s allocation goes to retailers or Sailor’s own shop, and when it is gone, it is gone.
- “Limited quantity” with no number (Elite 95S Ai, EBONITE ETERNAL FLOW, Sailor’s Voyage). These can last a day or a month.
- Limited by place and time (ancora Full Moon, Nagasawa online drops). Someone has to be in the Ginza store on the right day, or online at 20:00 Japan time.
How I handle them
- Send me the name or link before the release, not after. For Enryu, that means before 24 October.
- I check the shop’s terms in Japanese: online or in store, one per person, start time.
- On the day, I order at opening or go to the shop. For ancora’s Full Moon days I go to Ginza. If a release ever needs a queue or a lottery, I enter only where the terms allow it.
- I photograph the pen, box and papers, then pack and ship with tracking.
I cannot promise to get a pen that sells out in minutes. If it sells out, the goods money comes back in full, and so does my purchase fee if I could not buy anything.
Costs: the shop’s price including Japanese consumption tax; my purchase fee of 25% of the first ¥30,000, 20% of the part from ¥30,000 to ¥100,000 and 15% above that (¥8,100 on a ¥33,000 Elite 95S); ¥16,000 per half day if a release needs queuing in Tokyo; shipping as a fixed amount quoted before you pay; and payment processing of 4% of the total. Import tax and duty in your country are not part of my quote. (Exception: for US parcels I collect the duty and the prepayment provider’s fee in advance, as separate lines in the quote.)
Tell me which pen or ink you are after through the form on the home page, or write to me before release day.
