Fukubukuro 2027: How Japanese Lucky Bag Reservations and Lotteries Work, and Which Ones I Can Get

By Yuki Iemura, Tokyo ·

A fukubukuro (lucky bag) is a sealed bag or box of goods sold for the New Year. Many are no longer sold over the counter on 1 January: as the examples below show, they are reserved or entered by lottery online between October and December, paid in advance, and delivered or collected around the New Year.

Short answer: As of 19 October 2026, the big department stores’ online 2027 lucky bags are already open for reservation. The character, cafĂ© and lifestyle brands have not announced their 2027 bags yet; last year their lotteries ran in November. Department-store bags are straightforward for me to buy. Lotteries depend on their terms, and some are closed to anyone buying for someone else.

Three ways lucky bags are sold now

Method How it works From abroad, through me
Online reservation, first come Order and pay on the shop’s site; delivered around the New Year Yes, while stock lasts
Online lottery Enter with a member account; winners pay by a deadline Only if the terms allow it, and usually only one per person
Lottery with in-store pickup Win online, then collect at the shop you chose Only if I can be the entrant and collect it myself

2027 bags already announced

These are the 2027 lucky bags whose dates the shops have published on their own pages. All dates are Japan time.

Daimaru Matsuzakaya Online Store. Orders until 25 December 2026, 10:00 (some items differ). Categories open in stages, each at 10:00:

  • 7 October: baby & kids, home & interior (already open)
  • 2 November: food & sweets, meal tickets
  • 10 November: women’s and men’s

Bags already listed include towel bags from „3,300 and children’s clothing bags at „11,000.

Takashimaya Online Store. Orders accepted from 1 October 2026, 10:00 to 31 January 2027, 10:00. Each bag has its own deadline and delivery date, and some arrive in 2026, others from January 2027.

Sogo & Seibu (e.depart) Fukubukuro Fair. Runs from 30 October 2026, 10:00 to 17 January 2027, 23:59, with some brands opening on 1 or 2 November. Quantities are limited and close when sold out. Some brands deliver from 25 December, others from 1 January.

I could not find an official 2027 announcement from Loft, Itoya or other stationery shops as of today.

Not announced yet: last year’s lotteries

These brands have not published their 2027 lucky bags. What follows is how the 2026 bags were sold, from the brands’ own pages. It shows the usual timing; it does not promise this year’s dates or terms.

Starbucks Japan. The Starbucks Lucky Bag 2026 was an online lottery from 4 to 14 November 2025, for My Starbucks members only, one entry per person, „8,800 including delivery, delivered 1–7 January 2026. The rules state that the right to buy cannot be transferred to anyone else, and that a win is cancelled if resale or transfer is found. I cannot buy this for you.

Pokémon Center. The Pikapika Box 2026 („4,400) was a lottery from 21 to 27 November 2025, with results by email from 3 December. Entry needed a Pokémon Center Online account, phone-number verification, and one entry per person. Pokémon Center Online delivers to Japanese addresses only, so I would be the entrant, with one entry. I will read the 2027 terms when they appear and tell you plainly if they rule out buying for someone else.

MUJI Fukukan. The 2026 Fukukan („2,026: one handmade lucky charm from a region of Japan, plus a „2,026 MUJI gift card) was a lottery from 20 November to 1 December 2025. Entry needed full MUJI membership with name, address and phone number, one entry and one can per person, and collection in person at the shop chosen when entering, between 1 and 10 January. No home delivery and no changing shops. Half of its value is a gift card, so check where you could actually use it before asking for one.

Which ones I can and cannot get for you

I can:

  • Reserve department-store bags online (Daimaru Matsuzakaya, Takashimaya, Sogo & Seibu) as soon as a category opens, and receive them in Japan.
  • Buy first-come bags in a shop, including the New Year’s Day queue in Tokyo.
  • Enter an open lottery in my own name, when its terms allow it. Most allow one entry per person, so I can take only one request per lottery, and a lottery can be lost.

I cannot:

  • Enter lotteries that forbid transfer or resale of the bag or the right to buy, such as Starbucks Japan last year.
  • Enter using anyone else’s name, account, ID or phone number.
  • Send things that cannot travel: food and sweets bags, and meal tickets are mostly no use abroad and many foods cannot go by post. Ask first.

Before you choose, check what is inside. Last year’s Starbucks bag included drink tickets and MUJI’s included a gift card, and tickets like these are meant for use in Japan. I will tell you if the bag you want depends on them.

What this means if you order through me

  • Tell me early. Department-store categories open on fixed dates and quantities are limited. Send the link before the opening date and I will order at 10:00.
  • Delivery waits for the New Year. The department-store bags above are delivered from late December or from 1 January. I hold them free for up to 30 days, so other purchases can go in the same parcel.
  • A lost lottery costs you only my time. If I cannot buy the bag, the goods money and my purchase fee come back to you in full. Fees for queuing or a lottery pay for time already spent and are not refunded.

What it costs: the bag at the shop’s price, with a photo of the receipt. My purchase fee is 25% of the first „30,000 (20% of the part from „30,000 to „100,000, 15% above that), so an „11,000 bag costs „2,750 in fees. Each additional shop in the same parcel is „2,200. A New Year queue or a lottery in Tokyo is „16,000 per half day. Shipping is a fixed amount quoted before you pay, and payment processing is 4% of the total. Import duty and tax in your country are not in my quote. (Exception: for US parcels I collect the duty and the prepayment provider’s fee in advance, as separate lines in the quote.)

Rules and dates change every year, so check the shop’s own page before you decide. Send me the link on the request form, or write to me if you are not sure which bag can travel.
